Jessica Opie
Jessica Opie is a senior haematology pathologist and consultant-in-charge at the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) laboratory at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, and Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Town (UCT) Medical School. She qualified MBChB (Hons) from UCT in 1994 and then worked in clinical medicine, clinical haematology and oncology in the United Kingdom (UK), qualifying as a Member of the Royal College of Physicians UK in 1999. She then further trained as a laboratory haematologist in Sydney and qualified FRCPA in 2005. Thereafter she returned to Cape Town where she now lives with her young family. She has broad professional interests including morphology, flow cytometry, teaching (at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels), and HIV-associated lymphomas.
