Deepak Kumar Mishra

Prof Deepak Kumar Mishra is currently the Senior Consultant & Professor in Haemato-Pathology and Head Department of Laboratory Sciences, TATA Medical Centre, Kolkata. Dr. Mishra, served the Indian Armed Forces for more than 25 years of distinguished service before joining the prestigious TATA Medical Centre, Kolkata; a state of the art comprehensive cancer centre He pursued his post-graduate studies in Pathology from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune and had his post-doctoral training in Haematology at the Dept of Haematology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He was an academic faculty in Pathology & Haematology at the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, India before moving as the Senior Adviser (Pathology & Haematology) and Professor at the prestigious Army Hospital (Research & Referral), New Delhi; India; where he was instrumental in setting up a state of the art haematology laboratory and a cGMP stem cell laboratory for stem cell transplantation and research. He is a post-graduate teacher and examiner in Pathology and Transfusion Medicine, post-doctoral (DM) examiner in Haematology at a number of universities in India and the National Board of Examinations, India. He was twice UICC Fellow at the King’s College School of Medicine, London, UK and at the Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA. He was visiting Fellow at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York in and at the MDS Centre, Dept of Haematology, Stanford University School of Medicine. He was a visiting Faculty in the Dept of Haematology & Centre for MDS Research at Univ of Massachusetts School of Medicine, USA. He was a National Academy of Medical Sciences visiting faculty at the Dept of Haematology, Christian Medical College & Hospital, Vellore. He is a Member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (India), Fellow of UICC, Fellow of the Indian College of Pathology and Fellow of the Indian Society of Haematology & Blood Transfusion. He is a Past - President of the Indian Society of Haematology & Blood Transfusion (ISHBT) and the current Secretary of the Indian Association of Pathologists & Microbiologists (IAPM). He is the past Editor and Associate Editor of the Indian Journal of Haematology & Blood Transfusion. and Associate Editor, Haematology Section of the Indian Journal of Pathology & Microbiology ( IJPM ). Recently he has been nominated as Member, Science & Education Committee of the International Society of Haematology (ISH) and as Council Member for India in the Asia – Pacific Division of International Society of Haematology. He is also a Councilor of the International Society of Laboratory Hematology (ISLH). He is the Chair of the India Advisory Board: Board of Certification, American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP). He is a honorary Professor to the Department of Clinical Haematology, SCB Medical College, Cuttack, Odisha, India. His main areas of research interests are myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), minimal residual disease (MRD) in leukaemias, and stem cell research. He is the Chair of the ICMR Task Force Sub-Committee on MDS and the National Convener of the Indian MDS Registry.
