Quality assurance and continuing education for medical scientists and laboratories in remote and resource poor settings presents challenges that are being overcome globally in innovative ways using existing resources and, in Western Australia, online delivery of quality assurance. We describe the use of an online learning system in Haematology for PathWest Laboratory Medicine regional scientists that has increased participation inĀ blood film and malaria Morphology, Coagulation and Transfusion Medicine competency assessments and continuing education. The online program allows remote scientists to access educational material at anytime, is visually appealing, adaptable to local needs and fulfils the requirement for documented participation in Haematology competency assessments.
